Non-Intervention 101

Watch it.

Giuliani is a fool.

Hearing that made my blood boil. Ignoring his absurd assertion that his proximity to the event somehow makes his opinion more valuable, his statement and demand for a recant from Paul is totally baseless.

We don’t have to guess why we were attacked on September 11th, we’ve been told by the very person who planned it. In Bin Laden’s manifesto he stated the exact reason why he declared war on the United States a full 5 years before the 9/11 attacks.

The latest and the greatest of these aggressions, incurred by the Muslims since the death of the Prophet (ALLAH'S BLESSING AND SALUTATIONS ON HIM) is the occupation of the land of the two Holy Places -the foundation of the house of Islam, the place of the revelation, the source of the message and the place of the noble Ka'ba, the Qiblah of all Muslims- by the armies of the American Crusaders and their allies. (We bemoan this and can only say: "No power and power acquiring except through Allah").

In fact, Bin Laden wanted to make the point that our intervention was one of the main reasons he declared was so clear that he entitled the declaration “Declaration of War against the Americans Occupying the Land of the Two Holy Places.”

I’m not at all justifying their actions so don’t even bother getting all worked up about that. That’s not even the issue. Read again what Dr. Paul said (Paraphrased):

I believe the CIA is correct when it warns us about blowback. We overthrew the Iranian government in 1953 and their taking the hostages was the reaction. This dynamic persists and we ignore it at our own risk. If we think we can do what WE want around the World and not incite hatred, then we have a problem. They’re not attacking us because we’re rich and free, they’re attacking us because we’re over there.

Why is Ron Paul the only one suggesting we don’t have to take part in building and running other countries? Why is he considered a “fringe” candidate anyway just because he’s anti-war? The vast majority of the country wants to end Iraq TODAY and there are only three anti-war candidates from both parties. (Paul, Kucinich, and Gravel) All of whom are considered long shots.

The United States citizens did not invite 9/11, its government did. 9/11 was the culmination of one hundred years of US politicians playing a game of chess with the World as its board and our money as its pawns. While THEY (politicians) experimented with regime changes, foreign aid, and alliances WE (citizens) did nothing to piss off the rest of the World. Just a handful of men have decided for the rest of us who around the World should be pushed around and for what reason, doing it all in the name of the United States and democracy.

On September 11th a few thousand innocent civilian lives were ended as a result of that game.

OH MY GOSHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Giuliani infuriates me, just infuriates me!!! Grrrr.... I don't even know what to say because he just makes me so mad!

Giuliani is free to make his opinion known, just as Mr. Paul is. I think Mr. Paul's opinion is the more correct one. Blowback is an historical fact. We have seen it repeatedly from not just Iran, but Lockerby, Scotland; Kuwait; etc.

Of course each person has a right to their own opinion (I fully support and honor that right). I just HATED how he reacted in disgust to Dr. Ron and I felt like he was just trying to use the tragedy of 911 to work to his benefit because he was there.
And obviously Giuliani doesn't value the opinions of others because he wanted Dr. Ron to take his back.

Dr. Ron blurbs that ROCK!

Ha, that video is so ghetto.

Exactly, I couldn't have said it better myself. Not only that he was wrong, too.

Crystal Starr said...

Ya I was going to say that too, that he was wrong!! =)

Thanks for posting that. Unfortunately, I haven't been watching any of the debates, but I damn well should be. Paul makes a valid point, and Juliani is making, in my opinion, a huge mistake, even though he has what appears to be the popular support. There can be no good that comes from ignoring what Paul says about our presence on the world scene. It's no more complicated than playground politics.

Its unfortunate that Guiliani has that opinion. I like the man and how he handled himself in the days following the 9/11 attacks.

I agree with Dr. Ron however in that we do need to watch how we appear to other nations. We pick and choose who to help, who to put into power. One big chess game that can bring us down at a moments notice.

Dr. Ron has nothing to recant. His opinion has merit and I am glad to see someone who wants to think more clearly and objectivly before sending troops in to do dirty work.

Thanks for sharing this. I too need to watch these debates a little more closly.

That bit right there should be in bold print! You make buckets of sense, now...
...what can we the citizens *do* about all of this?
:(

Wow! Look at all the comments! Thanks for stopping by everyppl!

Unfortuneatly it’s not just Giuliani . The mainstream of the Republican Party seems to share the same viewpoint. The limited government portion of the Republican Party seems to be all but gone and they’ve moved on to Neo-Con dreams of nation building. Sad really.

Dr. Ron has nothing to recant. His opinion has merit and I am glad to see someone who wants to think more clearly and objectivly before sending troops in to do dirty work.

Yep. That’s the point really. There’s nothing wrong with questioning foreign policy.

Thanks Sadie. What can be done is a tough question. There are those who believe we’ve gone too far and we can only hope to impede the march to self-destruction, not reverse it. I believe, even if that is the case, it’s worth it to try. There are certainly two things we can do that don’t require all that much effort.

1) Don’t vote for Democrats and Republicans. Of course the exception to that rule is Ron Paul, though he’s not exactly a Republican.

2) Educate yourself. Look for sources that don’t celebrate State authority. They’re hard to find, but the Mises Institute, which I have linked on my blog is a great place to start. There’s enough information there to keep you busy for years.

I didn't see an email link, so I'm posting your questions here. ;)

1) I've noticed, from your comments on my husband's blog, that you enjoy PC gaming. What's your favorite game?

2) What role do you fill, in the homeschooling of your children?

3) You seem to be a fellow history geek. What is your favorite period of history?

4) Do you cook? If so, what is the best meal you prepare?

5) What's your idea of the "perfect" vacation?

Paul has some serious juevos to tell the truth. Rudy's a politician, and I don't trust him one bit. Paul's the real deal. I think I just found who I'm voting for. It's too bad I just registered Libertarian (I used to be Green just to get a 4th party on the ballot) because I'd love to vote for Paul in the primaries.

Scott said...

Yeah, that's yet another flaw in our wonderful democratic system. Me and Crystal are re-registering just so we can vote for him.

This is just another example of someone who does not tow the party line being written off as some sort of freak. I think he makes the most sense. Saying that 9/11 happened because of American foreign policy is not the same thing as saying we "invited" the attack. Criticizing our policies is not unpatriotic. And yes, Guliani is a fool.

He said about a month ago that if the Democrats are elected in 2008 that we will get attacked again. Talk about fearmongering.

Personally, I think that if we're going to get attacked again, it will be in the mayhem period during the transition of administrations, regardless of who wins.

Yep. How crazy is it to actually read the 9/11 report and CIA intelligence? He's been asked a dozen times why he's running as a Republican since and during that debate. The guy who has NEVER voted to raise taxes, voted against the Patriot Act (which greatly increased the overall size of government drastically), and constantly speaks out against the UN is questioned for not being "conservative" enough. Just goes to show that word means absolutely nothing any more.

Surprisingly, Pat Buchanan of all people may have summed up the scramble to shut Paul up after this debate best:

"By all means, throw out of the debate the only man who was right from the beginning on Iraq."

Crystal Starr said...

Ya I was watching a interview today (from last night on CNN) with Ron Paul being asked once again WHY he's running as a Republican if he's a Libertarian. I loved his answer and I just love the way he talks! He said that HE is the MOST Republican candidate running I LOVE that he can say that with such ease and absolute truth. It's so clearly obvious that this guy is not a politician he's just a guy who wants to stand up for the people and the constitution, he's the ONLY person that isn't just talking out of their butts!

Rob Paul defends his stance as a TRUE Republican.

Crystal Starr said...

Can I just add that I am SOOOOO ANNOYED that I have to re-register as a Republican! SOOOOO GHEY!!!

We were bombing Iraq for 10 years? And that is why Al Queda attacked us? This is just not true.

Scott said...

No?

Then show why they did.

You saw 28 Days Later? I so want to see that. The first movie was the perfect balance of scary for me and the hubby...
We saw a cool movie last night,
The Painted Veil. I liked it a lot.

Great Post! You and I think a lot alike, at least on this coming election. I almost felt like I was reading my own words. Why is anyone that opposes military adventurism on the fringe? Why indeed! Somehow we live in a world where peace is radical, but violence is the norm. Call it 1984, just 23 years too late.
