A few months a go Ron Paul had a little debate with Giuliani over foreign policy in the war with Iraq.

The crowd at the time was notably on the side of Rudy Giuliani.

Well the tides are changing...

He's more confident.
He's got a consistent message.
The Romneys and Giulianis have no answer.
They look befuddled.

And most of all, he's the same thing he's always been.

Right.

Giuliani positively scares me. The Republicans in that audience were clueless and were being pandered to and everyone on stage but Paul were obliging them by playing to and creating fear.

Paul did great, but the debate as a whole left me feeling dirty. Did you catch the part where after Paul made a good point and was receiving applause, George Streptococcus chimed in to silence them? The idea of asking questions on healthcare and not giving a moment on the subject to the one doctor on the stage was a slight so glaring that it outshined the absurdity of asking a question on tax reform and not giving time to the biggest tax reformer. Perhaps ABC News thought they could marginalize Paul, but as with the Giuliani remark, the only ones they marginalized was themselves.

Dback,

Pandering does seem to be the method of campaigning for politicians, doesn't it? Maybe one of the flaws of representative government.

godwhacker,

Yeah, Stepho-whatever his name is was certainly not interested in hearing what Paul had to say despite the crowds apparent interest.

Besides, anti-war is just so.... passé.

Pandering is only a flaw in a representative government that represents people who are too lazy (or maybe unable) to understand nuance and pay attention to more than 3-second sound bite style information. Truly sad. Fear is a base emotion. It's easily tapped. It's easily understood. It's easily manipulated.
